Most people own their homes here, and most have a drive, so we are usually working off-street rather than fighting for a kerb space. The nearest stations are Greenhithe and Longfield, both a couple of miles off, and Bluewater is barely five minutes up the road, which is why so many local carpets see shopping-bag and school-run traffic ground into the hall.

Where do you park when you come to Bean?
Most homes on the newer estate roads have their own drive or hard standing, so we usually pull in or park directly outside and run the hose straight in. The older High Street and lane properties are tighter, but on-street parking in the village is generally free and unrestricted, so access is rarely a problem.
Can you get builders’ dust out of new carpets?
It is one of the most common jobs we get in Bean, given how much loft and extension work goes on here. Fine dust binds into pale, newer pile and a vacuum alone will not shift it.
