Bromley South station counted 6.2 million entries and exits in 2024 to 2025, and the homes within a walk of it run from flats above the High Street to Edwardian semis near Homesdale Road. London Carpet Cleaning works Bromley South, BR1, with fixed prices from £36 a room, and fast trains reach Victoria in about eighteen minutes if you are heading out while the carpet dries. Carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours.

Flats by the station, semis beyond
Bromley South is the busy end of the town, built around a station that the London, Chatham and Dover Railway opened on 5 July 1858. Today it has four platforms on the Chatham Main Line, with Southeastern trains running fast to Victoria and Thameslink through Catford to Blackfriars, and lifts since 2012. Walk out from the platforms and the housing changes quickly. Close to the Market Square and the Glades you get purpose-built flats and converted period houses; push out along Homesdale Road and Hayes Lane and you find Victorian cottages and ground-floor conversions, with Edwardian semis from around 1903 on the roads between, many still keeping their original fireplaces.
Further out, towards Bickley and the quieter avenues, the 1930s semi with a hall, a bay and a through-lounge takes over. Between the two sit Church House Gardens and Queens Garden, so a fair number of these homes back onto green space and carry park mud in through the hall over winter. More flats are on the way. In July 2024 the council approved 353 rented homes on the Waitrose site next to the station, with building due to start in 2025, and in September 2025 it approved One Westmoreland Road, 138 flats between three and nineteen storeys at the entrance to the High Street.
What do the figures say about Bromley South homes?
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Flats of any kind | 31.8% |
| Purpose-built flats | 23.1% |
| Rented privately | 19.7% |
| Homes with one bedroom | 11.2% |
| Homes with two bedrooms | 24.1% |
| Built 2000 or later | 9.9% |
The census area that covers this page is called Widmore, and it stretches from Bromley Town ward out towards Bickley, so it mixes town-centre flats with family houses. Pick out the flats and the town end shows itself. Nearly a third of homes (31.8%) are flats, most of them purpose-built (23.1%), and 9.9% of the stock has gone up since 2000. Small homes are common: 11.2% have one bedroom and 24.1% have two.
For us that means a lot of compact jobs. In one of the purpose-built flats near the station, two bedrooms and the living room come to £115, and in a newer block the carpet is often a synthetic that takes a hot rinse and dries fast. Private renting runs at 19.7%, so the end-of-tenancy clean is a regular booking, timed for the day before the inventory check. Only 1.4% of homes have no central heating, which keeps drying times short in the flats as well as the houses.

Permit hours, market days and flats over shops
Parking is the part we plan most carefully here. The roads around the station are zone C, Bromley South, where the bays are for permit holders from noon to 2pm, Monday to Saturday. The town centre itself is zone A, and residents there with an A and C permit cannot use the bays between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Westmoreland Road has its own zone, WMR, from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday, with no visitor vouchers sold at all. Streets such as Hayes Lane sit in a controlled zone too, so we check the signs on your road when you book.
The High Street is a pedestrian area, and the Charter Market trades on it every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm. If your flat is above a shop, the van parks on the nearest legal side street and we carry the hose and hand tools to your door; a weekday morning outside market days makes that much easier. In the new blocks we use the lift and protect the corridor carpet on the way in. Tell the concierge or managing agent we are coming if your building has one.
Candle wax, grey stairs and tacky leather
The jobs split along the same lines as the housing. In the flats and conversions near the centre it is wool and the odd dinner-party accident, candle wax welded into a dining-room carpet being a classic we get out cold. On the older roads like Westmoreland Road and Hayes Lane we clean a lot of stairs and landings where the traffic lane down the middle has gone grey while the edges stayed fine, and we feed tired leather suites back to supple. In the 1930s semis off the avenues it is the big through-lounge, often a single carpet running front to back, which dries by bedtime if the room is warm.
Mattresses come up a lot too, the kids’-room kind with the odd accident over the years, cleaned and sanitised in place. A wax or curry stain that set months ago usually lifts to a faint shadow, and on a deep wool pile a hot day helps the drying more than anything I can promise. I will always tell you on the doorstep whether a mark is coming out fully or only fading.

Our carpet, sofa and rug services in BR1
The core job is hot-water extraction, our steam carpet cleaning, which rinses the pile and leaves it dry within 6 to 7 hours. Sofas and those tacky leather recliners come under upholstery cleaning, cleaned and conditioned in the home. A stained wool rug in the sitting room gets full rug cleaning where it lies, pre-treated at the stain and then shampooed and rinsed. We cover the same services across the rest of Bromley, and out to nearby Sundridge and Downham.
Questions we get from around the station
Which streets do you cover around Bromley South, from Masons Hill to Bickley?
All of BR1 around the town centre, from Masons Hill and Westmoreland Road across to Homesdale Road and the avenues towards Bickley, and over the postcode line into the BR2 roads like Durham Avenue and Crossways. That includes the homes backing onto Church House Gardens. If you are within a short drive of Bromley South station, you are in our area.
Where will the van park near the Market Square?
The roads nearest the centre and the Glades are tight and metered. The station roads are zone C, permit-only from noon to 2pm, and streets such as Hayes Lane sit in a controlled parking zone with restrictions Monday to Saturday. For flats and conversions there we work off our own hoses from wherever we can pull in legally, so we rarely need a space right outside your door.
Can you treat the original carpets in an Edwardian or 1930s house?
Yes. The period and interwar homes off Hayes Lane and around Bickley often have wool or wool-blend carpet, which we clean on a gentler setting with a controlled amount of water so it rinses clean without over-wetting. Older underlay and floorboards underneath are exactly why we keep the pile as dry as we can.
How long until the carpet is dry in a Bromley South through-lounge?
Carpets take up to 6 to 7 hours to dry, so a morning clean is ready by the evening and heavy traffic should stay off until then. A long through-lounge carpet in a 1930s semi, or thick wool on a cold, wet day, takes a little longer, so we leave the windows on the latch. Warmth is what helps most.
Do I need to give you a visitor voucher?
Only if the job runs into restricted hours on your road. In zone C the bays are permit-only from noon to 2pm, so a morning booking often avoids the need entirely. Zone A residents can buy visitor vouchers for zones B and C only, and Westmoreland Road (zone WMR) has none, so there we park in the nearest unrestricted spot and run the hose.
My flat is above a shop on the High Street. Can you still get the equipment in?
Yes. The High Street is pedestrianised, so we park on a side street and bring the hose and tools to your door on foot. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays the Charter Market fills the street from 9am to 5pm, so we book those flats for Monday to Wednesday where we can. Tell us if the stairs to your flat are shared with the shop.
Every clean comes with a re-clean guarantee: if a treated area does not come up as agreed, we come back and put it right at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have cleaned carpets, upholstery and rugs across Bromley South since 2009.
