Bush Hill Park Golf Club, founded in 1895, plays over part of Old Park, once a royal park, and its clubhouse sits on the site of a twelfth-century motte and bailey. The homes around it run from Edwardian Arts and Crafts houses to post-war flats. London Carpet Cleaning cleans across Bush Hill, N21, from £36 a room, and most carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours.

Old Park, the golf course and Bush Hill
Old Park was the inner royal park, known as the Frith, kept separate from the far larger Enfield Chase. In 1650 it covered 553 acres south-west of Enfield Town, and by the end of that century it had turned into farmland. The castle mound beneath the golf club is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Building came late to this side of the parish, one estate at a time: the Bush Hill land passed to builders between 1890 and 1908, after the death of its owner, Horace Harry.
One of those builders lived on the hill. Richard Metherell, who had made his name in Muswell Hill, moved to Bush Hill in 1895 and later lived at Elmcott, at its summit. From 1907 he built the Arts and Crafts houses of Grange Park on the land below, and by the end of 1909 his new roads, The Chine and Old Park Ridings, crossed the Salmons Brook valley. Much of what surrounds them came later. The middle of those roads and the streets west of the railway filled in between the wars, and after 1945 the council built homes in the old grounds of Halliwick, the house once called Bush Hill House. Winchmore Hill station, on the Hertford Loop, is the nearest, with Great Northern trains to Moorgate. Grovelands Park lies one way and the golf course the other, and both send mud indoors on boots and paws.
Getting to your door on Bush Hill
Most houses on and around Bush Hill have a drive or space off the street, and we use it if you can leave it clear. The roads climb toward the summit, so where the van has to stay on the road we run a long hose up the slope; the machine stays outside and only the hose and the cleaning wand come in.
Closer to Winchmore Hill station you may be inside Enfield’s Winchmore Hill controlled parking zone. When the council created it in 2005, the residents’ and business bays were controlled for one hour, 10.30 to 11.30am, Monday to Friday. Check the signs on your street. If they still show that hour, we either arrive after it or ask you for a visitor permit, and either way the job starts on time. Before we come, take small things off the stairs and the hall floor and put pets in a room we are not cleaning.
Bush Hill in the census
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Houses of any kind | 72.9% |
| Purpose-built flats | 22.6% |
| Three-bedroom homes | 26.4% |
| Rented privately | 17.1% |
| Built 1945 to 1972 | 16.5% |
| Built 1973 to 1999 | 12.6% |
The census has no Bush Hill area of its own; the homes fall in the neighbourhood it calls Grange Park. Houses dominate at 72.9%, yet purpose-built flats make up 22.6%, far more than the Edwardian picture suggests. They match the post-war building: 16.5% of homes went up between 1945 and 1972 and 12.6% between 1973 and 1999, which takes in the council homes in the Halliwick grounds and other small post-war sites.
That gives us two kinds of Bush Hill job. In the flats it is a bedroom or two and the living room, and with 17.1% of homes rented privately, some of those are move-out cleans. In the houses it is a full staircase and big rooms. A two-bedroom flat with a living room costs £115. Central heating is almost universal (only 1.0% of homes go without), which keeps drying times short through the winter.

Jobs we get on Bush Hill
Most of our work here is in family homes that have been lived in hard. The stair carpet is the usual starting point, wool gone flat and grey down the centre, and the lounge carpet comes next. Fabric three-piece suites get added on, to be freshened without losing their shape. Wool rugs respond well, even with old wine marks in them, as long as the dye is tested first and the rug is never soaked. The bigger sitting-room rugs are cleaned in the home on the day, so clear the floor and we move the light furniture.
There is a point where cleaning stops helping. Where the nosing of each tread has been walked bare, a clean removes the grime and lifts the matting, yet the missing tufts stay missing. We say on the day whether a clean will bring a carpet back or only buy it time, before you pay anything.

Hot water, upholstery and rugs
For fitted carpet we use hot-water extraction, sold under the name most people search for, steam carpet cleaning; it flushes grit from the base of the pile and pulls the water straight back out. Fabric and wool sofas and armchairs are done through our upholstery cleaning, and wool pieces get rug cleaning in the home, with a photo sent first for anything silk or very old. The same crews cover the rest of Enfield, and over on the far side of Grange Park they work in World’s End too.
Is your question here?
Which Bush Hill streets do you cover, down to the golf course?
Every N21 road on Bush Hill and the Winchmore Hill side of it: Green Dragon Lane, Old Park Ridings, The Chine, Wades Hill, Vicars Moor Lane and the streets that fall toward the golf course. The whole borough is on our list, so a parent’s house in Enfield Town or Palmers Green can go on the same booking.
Is parking a problem for the van here?
Not often. Most houses have a drive or a space off the road. Near the station, Enfield’s Winchmore Hill zone controlled its bays for one hour on weekday mornings when it was set up, 10.30 to 11.30, and outside the marked hours parking is free. Give us your road when you book and we will plan around it.
Can you get red wine and pet marks out of a wool carpet?
Usually. We pre-treat the mark, rinse it with a solution made for wool and extract it, and a fresh spill that nobody has scrubbed tends to vanish. Urine that has reached the underlay needs a second treatment from above. Anything old and set we look at with you before we begin.
How long will carpets take to dry in a Bush Hill house?
Most carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours. Dense wool, or a cold north-facing bedroom in January, takes a bit longer. A morning clean is usually dry by the evening, and if a room is slow we leave a window open and an air mover running.
Do you clean flats as well as the big houses?
Yes, and there are more of them than people expect: 22.6% of homes in the census area are purpose-built flats, including the post-war council homes in the old Halliwick grounds. A flat job is quick, usually a couple of bedrooms and the living room, and we carry the kit up the stairs ourselves if there is no lift.
Will you move the heavy furniture?
We move sofas, armchairs, coffee tables and dining chairs, then stand them on foam blocks or film so nothing marks the damp pile. Very heavy pieces, a full wardrobe or a piano, stay put and we clean around them. Empty the small things off shelves and tables first and the room is ready.
The re-clean guarantee applies to every job, so a treated patch that disappoints gets a second visit at our cost. Our team is insured and DBS-checked, and we have looked after carpets, upholstery and rugs on Bush Hill and across Enfield since 2009.
