What Carshalton South and Clockhouse homes are like
This is Carshalton on the Hill, the high chalk ground south of Carshalton Park, with Stanley Park sitting as an open green rectangle right in the middle of it. The housing splits two ways. The Clockhouse estate, built by the old council before and after the war with its parade of shops at Hillcrest, is mostly solid post-war semis with bay windows and decent gardens. Almost everything sits within a short walk of Carshalton Beeches station, off Gordon Road, which runs Southern trains up to London Victoria and London Bridge. The name Clockhouse comes from an old clock-topped farmhouse that stood across the Surrey border in Banstead; it was knocked down in the 1970s and built over, but the name stuck.
