Cremorne is named after the Cremorne Pleasure Gardens, which filled the ground between Ashburnham Road and Lots Road from 1845 until they closed in 1877. The stock-brick terraces built on that land in the 1880s still line Tadema Road and Burnaby Street. London Carpet Cleaning works across Cremorne, SW10, from those terraces to the World’s End towers, with rooms from £36 and carpets dry within 6 to 7 hours.

From pleasure gardens to terraces, estates and a power station
Cremorne sits at the far western end of the King’s Road, where Chelsea runs down to the Thames, and the housing is unusually mixed for one small pocket. When the pleasure gardens shut, the land was leased for building in 1878, and most of the terraces we clean in the side streets went up in the 1880s: two storeys over a basement, with open front areas behind cast-iron railings. Tadema Road is the exception, a flat-fronted terrace of four storeys plus a basement, the tallest in the area. On Cremorne Road, Cremorne Mansions carries its date, 1889, in the parapet, and the red-brick Cornwall Mansions and Ashburnham Mansions followed in 1898 to 1900. Kensington and Chelsea made these streets the Lots Village conservation area in November 2014.
The twentieth century added two estates. Chelsea’s borough council built the low-rise Cremorne Estate off Cremorne Road and Blantyre Street in the 1950s, and between 1969 and 1977 the World’s End Estate rose beside it: seven brown-brick towers of 18 to 21 storeys, linked by deck-access walkways and designed by Eric Lyons. The newest homes are at the river. Lots Road Power Station, built in 1902 to 1904 to power the Underground, has been turned into flats as part of Chelsea Waterfront, with two glass towers beside it, the taller of them 37 storeys. The apartments were completed in 2024.
That spread tells you a lot before we knock. A flat in the towers is reached by lift and a long walkway. A terrace on Tadema Road has a tall staircase with original boards under the carpet. A Waterfront apartment has pale pile that has hardly been walked on. We clean all three most weeks.
The housing mix in numbers
| Type of home | Share |
|---|---|
| Flats, of every kind | 88.8% |
| Houses, of every kind | 10.6% |
| Three bedrooms | 19.5% |
| Built 1945 to 1972 | 6.1% |
| Built since 2000 | 12.8% |
| Bought through shared ownership | 1.3% |
Cremorne shares its census figures with World’s End and the streets north of the King’s Road, all one neighbourhood to the ONS. Almost nine homes in ten (88.8%) are flats, and only 10.6% are houses. Most of those houses are the Lots Village terraces, so when we do clean a whole house here it is usually a tall, narrow one with a basement. For one of those terraces, three bedrooms, the living room and one flight of stairs, the bill is £192.
The building dates show the change at the river. The VOA counts 12.8% of homes as built since 2000, which takes in the new Chelsea Waterfront flats, against only 6.1% from the 1945 to 1972 years of the low-rise estate. New carpet in a new block is usually a pale synthetic, and it shows every mark in the first year. A light maintenance clean keeps it looking new. In the 1880s terraces the stairs are the hard-worked part, and the hall and landing take most of the soil carried in from the street.

Grey estate lounges and tall terrace stairs
The most common call here is an estate lounge carpet that has gone grey and rough underfoot, usually a synthetic pile that has taken years of traffic on a busy through-route. Those lift a good deal lighter and feel soft again, and most people are surprised how much was trodden-in soil and how little was permanent staining. We also get plenty of end-of-tenancy bookings on bedroom carpets, children’s sofa and mattress jobs, and shaggy rugs the dog has been sick on, which we pre-treat and clean in the home.
Two limits are worth knowing. In the high deck-access flats airflow is poor, and a deep synthetic carpet can take longer than the usual 6 to 7 hours to dry right through, so if you are clearing a room for a check-out, give it the evening before moving heavy furniture back. And a very old estate carpet that has matted into its backing will come up cleaner and fresher, but the crushed strip where everyone walks will not always lift completely. You hear that from us at the door, before any work starts.
Getting to your door on Lots Road and Cremorne Road
All of Cremorne is inside Kensington and Chelsea’s controlled parking zone, and the council’s map shows these streets controlled from 8.30am to 10pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 6.30pm on Saturday. Outside those hours any driver can use a residents’ bay. During them, the council allows up to 20 minutes of continuous loading in a residents’ or pay-by-phone bay, which is how we get the machine to your door before moving the van to a paid bay. Edith Grove and the run down to Battersea Bridge carry the A3220, a Transport for London road, so we unload in the side streets.
The Lots Village houses have steps down to the basement and steps up to the front door, so tell us which floor the carpet is on. In the towers we use the lifts. The power station flats at Chelsea Waterfront have a 24-hour concierge, so let them know the time we are due and ask whether contractors need to be booked in.

Carpets and rugs cleaned in place
Most Cremorne jobs are hot-water extraction, what people call steam carpet cleaning, which rinses the soil out of the pile and leaves it damp to the touch, never soaked. For sofas, armchairs and dining seats we do upholstery cleaning matched to the fabric; felt tip and food marks are the usual culprits. Loose rugs, including the big shaggy ones from the estate flats, get specialist rug cleaning on the spot, with the floor cleared and light furniture moved for you. We cover the rest of Kensington and Chelsea on the same fixed prices, and neighbouring SW10 spots like World’s End and West Brompton.
Before you book in Cremorne
Which Cremorne streets do you cover, from World’s End down to Lots Road?
All of SW10 around Cremorne, including the World’s End and Cremorne estates, Cremorne Road, Lots Road, Tadema Road, Burnaby Street and the Chelsea Waterfront flats by the river. We also reach the rest of the King’s Road, the Fulham Road end and the wider borough. If you are not sure we come to your block, send the postcode and we will confirm.
Can you park, and how do you reach a flat in the towers?
Parking is controlled by the Royal Borough, with residents’ and pay-by-phone bays across the streets and estate parking on World’s End and Cremorne. We carry our gear in and use the lifts in the high blocks, so the floor you are on is no problem. Tell us the entrance and any door code when you book and we will plan the load-in.
Will an end-of-tenancy carpet clean satisfy a Chelsea letting agent?
Yes. End-of-tenancy work is a big part of what we do here, and a professional hot-water extraction on the carpets is what agents and inventory clerks look for at check-out. We can clean the morning your tenancy ends so the carpets are fresh for inspection. Allow drying time before furniture goes back, especially in the deck-access flats.
How long until the carpet is dry in a World’s End tower flat?
Most carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours because extraction pulls the bulk of the water back out. Thicker pile and the higher flats in the World’s End towers, with less airflow, can take longer, so we open windows where we can and leave you with a realistic time. Light rooms with good circulation are usually the quickest.
My house is in the Lots Village conservation area. Does that affect the clean?
No. The designation, made in November 2014, protects the outside of the 1880s terraces, such as the railings and the roofs. Inside, what matters is the carpet. Many of these houses have a long staircase from the basement to the top floor, and we price each flight as stairs. The basement rooms dry a little slower, so we leave those until last.
Do you clean in the new Chelsea Waterfront apartments?
Yes. A new carpet in a new flat is easy to keep looking right if it is cleaned before the marks set, usually once a year. Tell the concierge we are coming and check whether the building wants contractors booked in or sent to a service entrance. We bring our own water and need one socket, and we leave the pile groomed and nearly dry.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee, so if a treated area is not right we come back and put it right at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have cleaned carpets, upholstery and rugs across Cremorne and the rest of Chelsea since 2009.
