Sandown Park has been racing beside Esher station since 1875, and the town behind it is one of the most detached-heavy in north Surrey, with deep wool runners on a great many staircases. London Carpet Cleaning has worked in Esher, KT10, since 2009, from the High Street flats to the big houses on Claremont Lane. A room costs from £36, and you can expect dry carpet after 6 to 7 hours.

From the Portsmouth Road to the private avenues
Esher grew as a stagecoach stop on the London to Portsmouth road, and it kept the through traffic until the A3 bypassed the town in the mid-1970s; the High Street is now the A307. The older core sits along it, around the Tudor church and Esher Green, and it has been a conservation area since July 1973. Here you find period villas and cottages, and smaller Victorian and Edwardian houses with picture rails and high ceilings. The Bear stands at the top of the High Street, and there are flats above many of the shops.
Away from the road the plots get bigger. Esher Park Avenue, a private road a short walk from the High Street, has large Edwardian houses on generous plots, and Lammas Lane, More Lane and Claremont Lane carry the same big family homes, many with deep wool runners on the stairs and landings. Claremont Landscape Garden, now the National Trust’s, sits to the south, and Esher Common runs out towards Hersham and Oxshott. Esher station, on the main line to Waterloo, is reached by footpaths skirting the racecourse.
Half the homes stand alone
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Detached houses | 49.0% |
| Flats in purpose-built blocks | 17.3% |
| One bedroom | 8.6% |
| Owned outright | 36.6% |
| Built before 1900 | 14.7% |
| Built 2000 or later | 21.8% |
The census confirms what the roads suggest. Detached houses make up 49.0% of homes, and only 8.6% have a single bedroom. Flats in purpose-built blocks account for 17.3%, so a smaller job is never far away. A four-bedroom detached house off Claremont Lane, through-lounge and stairs included, comes to £246.
The building dates spread across every era. 14.7% of homes went up before 1900, and those are the villas and cottages where low-moisture cleaning matters for old wool. At the other end, 21.8% were built in 2000 or later, with fitted carpet from wall to wall. With 36.6% owned outright, a lot of the wool we clean has been down for years, and the traffic lanes show it.

Esher Green CPZ, private gates and the High Street
The Esher Green controlled parking zone covers Esher Green, Esher Place Avenue and Wolsey Road. Bays there are for permit holders from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, with some shared bays that allow visitors two hours. For a house or flat inside the zone, we use your drive if there is one. Otherwise we take a shared bay for a short job, or park at the Civic Centre or Highwaymans Cottage car park and walk the kit in.
Most of the larger houses have off-street parking behind gates, so we pull onto the drive and run the hose from there. Send us the gate code or meet us at the gate on the day. On a private road, tell us of any rules about vans or working hours, and we keep to them. The A307 through the High Street is busy, and we never unload on it; for the flats above the shops we come in from the side streets.
Wool, mud off the common and worn runners
The recurring job here is wool. Older Esher homes are full of it, from stair runners to the large rugs in drawing rooms. Wool holds up beautifully but it grabs mud, and with Esher Common and the River Mole towpath on the doorstep, plenty of households have dogs carrying spring damp straight onto the landing. We hot-water extract and groom the pile, so the worn tread strip down the centre of a staircase lifts and the colour comes back.
A runner already worn through to the backing will look cleaner and brighter, but the bald patch stays bald, because the fibre is gone. We point that out before we start.

What we clean in KT10
Most bookings are for hot-water carpet cleaning, the method that suits Esher’s deep wool pile best. We also do sofa and upholstery cleaning, including the pale linen settees and feather-pad cushions that turn up in a lot of these lounges, and specialist rug cleaning, where larger wool rugs are vacuumed, pre-treated, shampooed and rinsed in your lounge. We cover neighbouring Claygate on the same terms, and cross the boundary into London for Hampton Wick and the rest of the Kingston side.
Before you book in Esher
Which Esher postcodes and roads do you cover?
All of the KT10 Esher area, from the High Street and Esher Green out to Esher Park Avenue, Lammas Lane, More Lane, Wolsey Road and Church Street. We also reach Claremont Park and the streets around Sandown Park racecourse. If you are near the boundary and unsure, send the postcode and we will confirm by return.
Where do you park on a private or gated road?
Most of the larger Esher houses have off-street parking behind electric gates, so we pull onto the drive and run the hose from there. In the Esher Green zone the bays are for permit holders from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, so we use a shared two-hour bay or a council car park for a house without a drive. Just let us know the access at booking.
Can you get red wine and pet marks out of a wool carpet?
Usually, yes, especially fresh ones. Wine and the odd accident from a dog lift well with the right pre-treatment and hot-water extraction, and a feather-filled cushion can be cleaned without flattening the pad. Old set stains may pale without vanishing, and we will tell you plainly which way yours is likely to go.
How long does the carpet take to dry?
Most rooms are dry within 6 to 7 hours, and you can walk on them carefully straight away in clean socks. A thick wool runner or a mattress holds more water, so allow a little longer; we leave windows cracked and air moving to speed it. We give you a realistic time for your job before we leave.
Can you clean a stair runner held down with brass rods?
Yes, in place. We clean the runner on the stairs with the rods left in, working tread by tread with a hand tool and low moisture, so the timber either side stays dry and the rods stay put. If a rod clip is loose or a runner has crept down the stairs, we point it out so you can have it refitted.
We live in a flat above a High Street shop. Can you still come?
Yes. We never stop on the A307 itself, so we park in a council car park or a side street and carry the kit up. The machine stays in the van, and the hose runs up to your door, so we need a clear route on the stairs. Tell us the floor and any entry code when you book.
Every clean is backed by our re-clean guarantee: if a treated area is not right, we come back and put it right at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have been cleaning carpets, upholstery and rugs across Esher and the London edge since 2009.
