From £36 a room · no call-out feeor call 020 8077 8090

Freezywater was first written down in 1768, named after a farm pond that was liable to freeze, and today it is two-storey terraces and semis from the 1930s and 1950s along the Hertford Road as it heads north for the M25, nearly all with front and back gardens. London Carpet Cleaning covers all of Freezywater, EN3, from £36 a room, and the carpet you walk on after we leave is dry within 6 to 7 hours.

Interwar semis between Bullsmoor Lane and Turkey Street

Freezywater sits at the top of Enfield, strung along the Hertford Road where it runs north towards the M25 and the Hertfordshire line. The farm that gave it the name lay to the north in 1768; by 1819 maps were spelling it Freezy Water, and both spellings are still in use. Bullsmoor Lane, the A1055, cuts across the north end, and the motorway runs over the Holmesdale Tunnel just beyond it.

Most of the housing is two-storey and interwar, terraces and semis put up through the 1930s and 1950s along the ribbon of the main road, and almost all of them have a decent front and back garden. Turkey Street station is about half a mile south on the London Overground Weaver line, on the Southbury Loop into Liverpool Street, with Enfield Lock and Waltham Cross the other stations in reach. East of the railway is industry, and Innova Park there is a business park of offices and warehouses. So in a typical week we might do a wool-blend stair carpet in a 1930s semi off Aylands Road and a synthetic bedroom carpet in a rented house round the corner.

This time the census and the place name agree: the page sits in Enfield 001, which the ONS calls Bullsmoor and Freezywater, inside Enfield Lock ward.

This is semi country. Semis are 39.1% of homes, houses of all kinds 73.6%, and more than half of all homes (51.8%) have three bedrooms, which is the standard interwar semi: a front room, a back room, a hall and one flight up to three bedrooms. The VOA puts 33.6% of homes in 1919 to 1944 and 24.2% in 1945 to 1972, the two building waves of the 1930s and the 1950s. A three-bedroom 1930s semi with a through-lounge and the one flight of stairs comes to £210 all in.

Private tenants make up 30.7% of households, and in Freezywater that often means a whole family house let out, so end-of-tenancy cleans here are bigger than a one-bed flat: three bedrooms, a lounge and the stairs before the check-out. Only 2.4% of homes have no central heating, and 8.9% rely on electricity alone, so most carpets here dry within the usual window.

Figures: ONS Census 2021 (Enfield 001) and VOA council tax stock, March 2024.

Drives, side roads and four primary schools

Freezywater has no controlled parking zone, so the residential roads off the Hertford Road mostly have free kerbside parking, and plenty of the 1930s houses have their own drive or hardstanding. If your drive is the only space and your car is on it, we can usually use the kerb outside; on the Hertford Road frontages we pull into the nearest side road and run the hose round.

Timing matters more than parking. Chesterfield Infant and Junior schools, Freezywater St George’s Primary and Honilands Primary all serve the area, and Lea Valley Academy, the old Bullsmoor secondary, takes the older children. The side roads near them are busy at drop-off and pick-up, so we aim to arrive once the morning run has cleared and to finish before the afternoon one. Inside, clear the stairs and the hall, and lift any toys and shoes off the bedroom floors before we start.

Gardens, pets and the felt-tip years

The gardens are the story here. With the Lee Valley and the reservoirs a short walk east, and lawns on nearly every plot, a lot of what comes in is trodden-in mud from the back door and pet traffic through the hall. We get the family jobs too, such as felt-tip on a front-room carpet or a fabric corner sofa that has taken a winter of the dog and the takeaways. Most of it lifts cleanly with hot-water extraction.

The limit is old set-in stains. A coffee ring that has been in a light lounge carpet for months, or a wine mark that dried in before you called, can lighten to a faint shadow and stop there. We tell you which way a stain is likely to go before we start.

Sofas and rugs, done the same day

The core carpet work is hot-water extraction, which rinses the pile and leaves it dry within 6 to 7 hours. Sofas and fabric chairs go through our upholstery cleaning, with the method chosen for the cloth, so a filthy corner unit comes back fresh and only slightly damp. Wool and delicate rugs, like the birthday-party casualty that took a glass of red, get proper rug cleaning in the room, with the red wine pre-treated first and a photo sent ahead for anything old. If you are elsewhere in the borough, from Enfield Town to Edmonton, the same crew covers the rest of Enfield, and we work the streets right next door in Enfield Lock and Ponders End.

Freezywater FAQs

Which Freezywater streets do you cover, up to the Waltham Cross boundary?

All of Freezywater is in EN3 and we cover the whole of it, from the Hertford Road frontages and Bullsmoor Lane to roads off them such as Aylands Road, up to the Waltham Cross boundary. The neighbouring EN3 areas are covered too, so anywhere between Turkey Street and Enfield Lock is within reach.

Is parking easy for the van on Freezywater’s residential roads?

Not usually a problem. Freezywater has no controlled parking zone, so the residential roads off the Hertford Road mostly have free kerbside parking, and plenty of the 1930s houses have their own drive or hardstanding. We carry our own water and power, so all we need is a space near the door for a while to run the hose in.

Do you handle end-of-tenancy carpet cleans here?

Yes, a good share of our Freezywater work is check-out cleans for rented flats and houses, and we time them around your inventory. We give you a dated receipt to show the landlord or agent, and we point out any older stain that may not fully clear, so there are no surprises at the inspection.

How long does a carpet take to dry in a Freezywater semi?

Expect 6 to 7 hours for most carpets, since extraction pulls the bulk of the moisture back out of the pile. Thick wool or a heavy through-lounge in one of the 1930s semis can take a little longer. With a window open and the radiators on low, a morning clean is dry by the evening.

Is a through-lounge charged as two rooms?

No. When the front and back rooms of a semi have been knocked into one, we price it as a through-lounge, from £61, which is less than two separate rooms. Bedrooms are from £36 each and the stairs from £41 a flight. If the arch between the rooms has been left in, it is still one through-lounge to us.

What should we do before you arrive?

Clear the floor of small things: toys, shoes, plants, anything stored under the beds. Lift any rug that sits on the fitted carpet so we can clean both. Shut pets in a room we are not doing, or in the garden. Wardrobes and bed bases that stay put are cleaned around.

A re-clean guarantee sits behind every Freezywater job: if a spot lifts back as it dries and you are not happy, we return and fix it. Our cleaners are DBS-checked, we carry full insurance, and the Enfield round has been ours since 2009.

Our fabric corner unit was filthy after a winter of takeaways and the dog. They got it looking and smelling fresh again. Really happy with the job.

Cleaned all the carpets for our checkout. Did a good job and we passed the inspection. A small coffee stain in the lounge didn't come out fully but the landlord didn't mind. Arrived late due to roadworks.

The kitchen tiles and grout were filthy by the back door from the garden. Came up loads better. He did seem a bit rushed near the end and missed a small corner, but I sorted that myself.
