What Hans Town homes are like
Hans Town was laid out from 1771 by the architect Henry Holland for the Cadogan estate, and named after Sir Hans Sloane, whose land it was. What stands today is mostly the late-Victorian rebuild: tall red-brick terraces and mansion blocks with Flemish gables and terracotta dressing, the style Osbert Lancaster nicknamed Pont Street Dutch. Cadogan Square went up between 1877 and 1888 and set the pattern for the whole district.
