What Heron Quays homes are like
Heron Quays sits inside the Canary Wharf estate on the Isle of Dogs, on the strip of old dockside that once separated South Dock from the Middle Dock of the West India Docks. The warehouses are long gone. What stands here now is almost entirely high-rise flats, and most of them are new. South Quay Plaza on Marsh Wall, Lanterns Court on Millharbour and the Cuba Street tower beside the new park are the buildings we are called to most, and the homes inside them follow a pattern: open-plan living rooms, one or two bedrooms, and pale carpet that was laid within the last decade or so.
The transport here is unusual for London. Heron Quays DLR sits right on the estate, with Canary Wharf on the Jubilee line a short walk north, both in zone 2. There is almost no on-street parking culture, because the Isle of Dogs falls inside the Tower Hamlets Zone D controlled parking zone and nearly every tower has its own underground or podium car park. For us that means access is through a concierge and a service lift, not a kerb outside the door.

Developers fit a soft, light greige across bedrooms and hallways, and in a flat where shoes come straight off the DLR it greys along the entry and the main walking line within a couple of years. Red wine on a bedroom floor, marks down the front edge of a fabric sofa, a hallway rug that has taken the brunt of the front door: those are the standard Heron Quays jobs, and a hot-water extraction clean lifts almost all of it. One honest limit. How do you get in when there is no parking and a concierge?
We are used to it. Tell us the building when you book and we will arrange access with the concierge or porter, use the service lift, and bring everything up to the flat. The Zone D parking and the underground car parks are no obstacle, since our van only needs a short loading stop at the entrance.
Can you get red wine and other spills out of the pale flat carpet?
Usually, yes, and the sooner the better. Fresh wine, coffee and food spills on the light builder’s carpet lift well with hot-water extraction and the right pre-treatment. Older set stains are harder, but most improve a great deal. If a mark cannot be fully removed we will say so honestly rather than promise the impossible.
How long will the carpet take to dry up on a high floor?
Most carpets are touch-dry in one to two hours, and you can walk on them straight away in socks. On a high-floor flat with the windows shut we leave the pile only lightly damp and suggest opening a window or running the flat’s ventilation for a couple of hours to finish it off evenly.
