Charles Holden’s heptagonal ticket hall of 1931, faced in Portland stone and listed Grade II, still fronts Hounslow West station on Bath Road. Around it, London Carpet Cleaning cleans the bay-fronted 1930s semis and rented flats of Hounslow West, TW3 and TW4, from £36 a room. Carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours, and there is no call-out fee.

Bath Road, the station and the barracks
The station explains the place. It opened in 1884 as Hounslow Barracks, at the end of a single-track branch, and took the name Hounslow West in 1925. Holden rebuilt it in 1930 and 1931, and when the Piccadilly line was pushed on towards Heathrow the new platforms opened in July 1975 below the old building, which was kept. Today it sits on Bath Road in fare zone 5, about 600 metres from where the Great West Road joins, one stop west of Hounslow Central on the way to Hatton Cross.
The houses came with the trains. Most of Hounslow West is interwar suburban housing, and the 1930s semi is the workhorse: bay-fronted, with a tiled hall and a long run of stairs and landing that does most of the work in the house. There are a few older terraces nearer the town and a steady supply of two-bed flats.
The barracks that gave the station its first name are still there, off Beavers Lane. The Cavalry Barracks date from 1793, and the Irish Guards moved out in 2021. A plan for 1,525 homes on the site won planning consent in May 2023, but the developer went into administration that autumn and the site has since been offered for sale. Hounslow Heath begins just to the south.
Who lives around Hounslow West station
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Built 1919 to 1944 | 54.0% |
| Semi-detached houses | 50.8% |
| Three-bedroom homes | 40.6% |
| Rented privately | 30.9% |
| Rented from the council or a housing association | 16.1% |
| Built before 1919 | 2.3% |
The census area that holds the station runs north of Bath Road towards Heston and Lampton, so it is a fair picture of the semi-detached streets either side of the station. The interwar build shows clearly: 54.0% of homes went up between 1919 and 1944, and half of all homes (50.8%) are semis. Only 2.3% are older than 1919. That makes the three-bed semi the standard job, with 40.6% of homes having three bedrooms. For one of those, three bedrooms, a through-lounge and the stairs, the bill comes to £210.
Almost a third of homes (30.9%) are rented privately and another 16.1% from the council or a housing association, which is why our end-of-tenancy diary in TW3 and TW4 stays full. Only 2.2% of homes have no central heating, so even in January a carpet dries on time with the radiators on low.

Parking inside the Hounslow West zone
The streets around the station and Bath Road sit in the Hounslow West controlled parking zone, which runs Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm. The council consulted residents on it from November 2023 to January 2024. If your road is inside the zone, a visitor permit or a space on your drive is the easy answer; outside those hours the bays are free to use.
Most of the semis have a drive or a short front garden we can park across, which suits the job, because the hose runs straight in through the front door. Bath Road is a busy main road, so we never stop on it to unload. Clear the hall before we arrive, since it is where the kit goes in and where the dirtiest carpet usually is, and take the shoes off the bottom stairs.

Festival cleans and family wear
Two jobs come up again and again here. The first is cleaning before festivals and big gatherings: lounges and dining rooms refreshed before Diwali, and old curry and turmeric marks lifted from the carpet by the dining table. The second is family wear, food and juice on fabric corner sofas in houses with young children, and stairs that have gone dark straight down the middle from years of use. We get those a lot brighter.
Turmeric is the one to know about. It stains the fibre like a dye, so a yellow patch that has been ground in and dried for months will lighten and often clear, but on a pale carpet we will not promise it back to factory white. We would sooner say that on the phone than over-sell it at the door.
Carpet, sofa and rug cleaning around Bath Road
We bring the hot-water extraction machine to the door for steam carpet cleaning that rinses the detergent back out, so carpets dry within 6 to 7 hours and are never left damp for days. For fabric sofas and the heavy lounge curtains that soak up cooking smells in an open-plan kitchen, our upholstery cleaning is matched to the fabric so nothing shrinks or over-wets. Wool and delicate rugs get rug cleaning in your home, which deals with a pet accident and the smell that comes with it, and a photo first tells us whether a delicate piece is safe on site. You can read about carpet cleaning across the borough, or the nearby streets of Hounslow Central and Hounslow East.
What Hounslow West customers ask us
Do you cover Hounslow West from Bath Road out to Hounslow Heath?
Yes. We cover all of TW3 and TW4 around the station, from Bath Road and the streets north towards Heston, down past Beavers Lane and the barracks to the edge of the Heath. The crew and the fixed prices are the same by the station or up towards the Great West Road, and we work weekends as well as weekdays.
Where will the van park, and is there a permit zone?
Most of the semis here have a drive or a front garden we can park across, which is ideal because the hose reaches in easily. The Hounslow West zone covers the busier roads near Bath Road and the station, Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm, so on those streets let us know and we will sort a bay or work around the hours.
Do you do end-of-tenancy carpet cleaning for rented flats?
Yes, and it is a big part of TW4 work given how many homes are let here. We clean to the standard letting agents inspect against and give you a dated receipt for the file, which is what gets the deposit signed off. Book it for the day the place is cleared so the carpets are the last thing done before the keys go back.
How long do carpets take to dry in a Hounslow West 1930s semi?
Allow 6 to 7 hours. The machine extracts most of the moisture back out, so the long hall, stairs and landing run of a 1930s semi is never left soaking. A thick wool runner on a winter day takes a little longer, so we open a window or leave the heating ticking over to help it along before we go.
Can you get an old turmeric stain out of a cream carpet?
Often a long way, and a fresh one usually completely. Blot a new spill with cold water, and keep hot water and bleach away from it. On an old mark we use a stain treatment made for dye-type stains, rinse, and repeat if it keeps lifting. A patch that has dried for months may leave a faint shade on cream, and we tell you before we start.
We are close to the A4 and keep the windows shut. Will the carpet still dry?
Yes. Extraction takes most of the water out, so the drying left to do is small, and in a house with central heating the radiators on low do the job with the windows closed. Keep the interior doors open so warm air moves round, and run the kitchen or bathroom extractor fan if you have one. Most rooms are dry within 6 to 7 hours.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee: if a patch comes back or you are not happy with an area, we return and put it right at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have cleaned carpets and upholstery across Hounslow West since 2009.
