On Church Street the London Apprentice, a mostly 18th-century pub listed Grade II*, looks across the Thames to the wooded island of Isleworth Ait, with All Saints’ old tower beside it. London Carpet Cleaning works across Isleworth, TW7, from Old Isleworth up through the Four Roads to the semis near the station. It costs from £36 a room, and carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours.

The riverside town and the largest conservation area in Hounslow
Isleworth keeps a compact old core on a street plan that goes back to the medieval village: Church Street, South Street, North Street and Mill Plat. Hounslow designated the Isleworth Riverside Conservation Area on 11 November 1972, and it is now the largest in the borough, taking in all of Syon Park as well. Church Street is a ribbon of mainly 18th and 19th-century houses running down to a public slipway onto the foreshore, and Isleworth Ait opposite is a densely wooded island of about 10 acres, one of the last places on this stretch of the river where boats are still built. South Street has been the shopping street since the 17th century.
On 13 July 1993 the boundary was pushed south-west to take in the Four Roads: Byfield, Algar, Tolson and Worple Roads. This was market-garden land, the Sorrel Field, walled in the 18th century, and it was built up in the late 19th and very early 20th centuries with terraced houses linked by narrow alleys. Many keep their sash windows, porches and front doors.
Further out the stock gets younger. Victorian terraces line the long, curving Linkfield Road and St John’s Road between London Road and Twickenham Road, and south of the conservation area an estate of late interwar semis flanks Worple Avenue, the bay-fronted kind with original hall tiles and a wool stair carpet. Isleworth station on London Road, on the Hounslow Loop, is the town’s rail link to Waterloo.
Isleworth homes by type and age
| Homes that are | Share |

| Flats in purpose-built blocks | 41.2% |
| Built in 2000 or later | 29.9% |
| Rented privately | 27.5% |
| Built 1919 to 1944 | 24.1% |
| Rented from the council or a housing association | 22.9% |
The census splits Isleworth into several neighbourhoods; the one that covers the centre is called Syon Green. Houses still edge out flats, 52.3% to 47.5%, and nearly a quarter of homes (24.1%) date from between the wars. What surprises people is how new the rest is: 29.9% of homes were built in 2000 or later, much of it on former industrial land by the river, and 41.2% of homes are flats in purpose-built blocks.
Half the homes are rented, 27.5% privately and 22.9% from the council or a housing association, so a lot of our Isleworth work is end-of-tenancy cleaning and family lounges in rented houses. In a new riverside flat the job is usually two rooms and a hall; for two bedrooms and the living room in one of those flats, the price is £115. Only 2.2% of homes have no central heating, though older ground floors near the river can feel cool and damp, so we keep the air moving while the carpet dries.

Parking in Old Isleworth and the Four Roads
The Four Roads sit in the Worple Road area controlled parking zone, which covers Algar Road, Byfield Road, Magdala Road, Tolson Road and Worple Road between South Street and Queens Terrace. It runs every day, 9am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm, so a van that arrives after 11am is clear until 5pm. The council reviewed the zone over winter 2023, and we check the signs on the day in case the hours have changed. These streets are narrow and the houses open straight onto the pavement, so we stop as close as the bays allow and run the hose to the door.
Down on Church Street, part of the river wall between Syon Park and the pub is used for parking, but it fills up on fine days. For homes on the narrow section of Church Street or off Mill Plat we usually carry the kit a short way. Tell us when you book if your house has steps up to the door or a basement room, and move ornaments and small furniture off the floor before we arrive.

Upstairs sweeps and river damp
The riverside setting shows up in the work. Old Isleworth holds damp more than higher ground, so carpets on ground floors near the water take a touch longer to come back, and we keep the air moving while we work. The job we get asked for most is the upstairs sweep: three bedrooms and the landing in one go, with the worn strip outside the bathroom door brought back. Stairs are a steady second, usually after a dog has moulted through the winter and left hair worked deep into a plush pile. We lift the bulk of that and the carpet feels full again.
Where a pale wool carpet or sofa has been faded by years of river-facing light, or an old spill has already taken the colour out of the fibre, a clean removes the dirt but will not put lost dye back. We tell you that before we start.
Carpet, upholstery and rug cleaning across TW7
Carpets get our hot-water extraction, a deep steam carpet clean that rinses the pile and leaves it dry within 6 to 7 hours. For sofas and dining chairs, our upholstery cleaning is matched to the fabric, whether that is a linen two-seater that has met a glass of red wine or a tight-woven weave. Loose rugs are cleaned in the home under rug cleaning, which suits wool pieces, and for a silk one we ask for a photo first to say whether it is safe on site. We cover the rest of Hounslow on the same fixed prices, and reach nearby Osterley and Brentford End just as easily.
Isleworth carpet cleaning, your questions
Which parts of Isleworth do you cover, from Church Street to Spring Grove?
All of TW7. That runs from Old Isleworth and the riverside streets off Church Street and South Street, through the Four Roads and up Linkfield Road and St John’s Road, out to the homes near West Middlesex University Hospital and on to Spring Grove. If you sit on the TW7 boundary with a neighbouring postcode, ask us anyway, as we are usually close by.
Is parking a problem on the older streets?
Sometimes. The Four Roads are in the Worple Road zone, controlled every day from 9am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm, so we aim to arrive after 11am or bring a visitor permit. On Church Street the riverside parking fills on sunny days. We carry our own kit and only need a space near your door for an hour or two.
We have an end-of-tenancy coming up. Can you do the whole flat?
Yes, and the rented terraces and riverside flats around Isleworth keep us busy with these. We clean the carpets and any upholstery in one visit, and book it the day before a check-out or check-in so carpets (6 to 7 hours) and upholstery (10 to 12 hours) are dry, which is what most TW7 letting agents want to see on the inventory.
How long do carpets take to dry in an Isleworth period house?
Allow 6 to 7 hours for a normal clean, because hot-water extraction pulls most of the moisture back out as it rinses. That holds for the wool carpet in a Worple Road terrace or a bay-fronted semi. Keep to socks until it is dry, and use foam pads under furniture legs when the pieces do go back, so the damp pile is not marked.
Our Four Roads terrace opens straight onto the pavement. How do you get the machine in?
We run the machine from the van on a long hose, so only the hose comes through the house and a narrow hall is no obstacle. We cover the hall floor and work from the top room down to the front door. A short stop on the street outside the zone hours is all the van needs, or a visitor permit if you would like a morning slot.
Is it safe to clean a carpet laid over old suspended timber floorboards?
Yes. Hot-water extraction puts water into the pile and pulls almost all of it straight back out, so very little reaches the boards. On older houses we turn the moisture down further and make an extra dry pass. Keep the airbricks outside clear so the void under the floor stays ventilated, and the boards will not notice the clean.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee: if a spot does not lift, tell us and we will come back and do it again at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have cleaned across Isleworth and the rest of Hounslow since 2009.
