What Keston homes are like
Keston sits right on the edge of London’s sprawl, part village and part suburb, wrapped around Keston Common and Hayes Common to the south of Bromley. It has no station of its own; the nearest is Hayes, about a mile and a half north-west and the terminus of the Hayes line, roughly half an hour into London Bridge and Cannon Street. The old village core along Commonside is a conservation area, with a handful of Grade II listed houses among the cottages, and the Greyhound pub as its anchor. Further north, Keston Mark is far more suburban: interwar and post-war semis and detached houses, the sort of 1930s and 1950s stock you find right across this corner of Kent.
Then there is Keston Park, the private gated estate of around 200 large detached homes spread over seven private roads and roughly 140 acres, which straddles the BR2 and BR6 line. Those are big houses with a lot of carpeted floor, deep stairs and often wool throughout. A cleaner here passes Keston Ponds on Fishponds Road, the three fishponds that feed the source of the Ravensbourne, and the black post mill of 1716 that still stands on the Common. It is a green, low-density place, and the carpets reflect that.
