And Sidcup station is here, not in Sidcup proper: it was built in 1866 a mile north of the town centre, in what was then the parish of Lamorbey, and its Dartford Loop trains run to Charing Cross and Cannon Street via Lewisham. Add The Hollies, the former children’s home (1901–1983) whose grounds are now a private estate mixing converted period buildings with newer houses, and you get more variety behind the front doors than the rows of semis suggest. Holy Trinity church on the park’s edge, Victorian Gothic and completed in 1879, predates nearly everything around it.
