What Longlands homes are like
Longlands fills the mile between Sidcup and New Eltham, and the postcode does something odd on the way: the western streets post through London SE9, the rest through DA15, with a DA14 fringe running down towards Foots Cray. Whatever the envelope says, this is London, split between Bexley and Greenwich with a Bromley corner south of the bypass.
The signature stock is 1920s. Longlands Road carries its own conservation area: runs of matching semi-detached pairs put up in the mid to late 1920s by Cory and Cory, a building firm from Eltham, with steep hipped roofs, corner porches on curved timber brackets, red-brick bays and leaded lights. Front gardens sit seven and a half to nine metres deep behind grass verges. Numbers 161 to 173 were rebuilt to the original design after wartime bomb damage, and you would struggle to pick them out today. Around that core are plainer 1930s semis, a band of 1970s flats at the eastern end of Longlands Road, and Marlowe House, the 17-storey 1966 tower on Station Road that is still the tallest building in Bexley.
Sidcup station is nearly a mile from the town’s High Street, which puts its platforms effectively in Longlands; Dartford Loop trains run via Hither Green into Charing Cross and Cannon Street. King George’s Field opens out behind the north side of Longlands Road, and the Main Road parade keeps a chippy, a launderette and a small post office.

That grey lane down the middle of a flight is usually flattened-in soil rather than wear, and it lifts.
