Munster Road is thought to take its name from Munster House on Fulham Road, linked by tradition to Melesina Schulenberg, whom George I made Duchess of Munster in 1716. Today it is the spine of a grid of Victorian terraces between Fulham Cemetery and Parsons Green. London Carpet Cleaning has worked in Munster, SW6, since 2009, often on the fitted wool kept on stairs and in bedrooms. Each bedroom is from £36, and a carpet takes up to 6 to 7 hours to dry after the clean.

From market gardens to a Victorian grid
This was Fulham Fields, market gardens growing fruit and vegetables for London, well into the Victorian years. The parish cemetery on Fulham Palace Road opened on that land in 1865, designed by Arthur Blomfield and extended in 1874 and 1880, and the streets of terraced houses filled in round it. Munster Village, the name you hear for the grid off Munster Road, is an estate agents’ name. It takes in streets such as Aintree Street and St Olaf’s Road on the cemetery side, and Filmer Road across Munster Road to the east.
The stock is mostly late Victorian, terraced family houses with a scatter of mansion blocks. Nearly all of it has been done up at some point, so you tend to find sanded boards in the reception rooms and fitted wool or wool-mix carpet kept on the stairs and in the bedrooms. Where a house has gained a loft room, there is a narrow top flight of stairs as well. The nearest stations are Parsons Green and Fulham Broadway on the District line, both a walk away and neither on the doorstep, which is part of why the streets feel quiet for somewhere this central. Bishop’s Park and the river are a short stroll south-west, and a cleaner coming in from the north passes Normand Park and Fulham Cross.
Munster in the census
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Houses of any kind | 40.2% |
| Terraced houses | 35.5% |
| Flats in converted houses | 22.6% |
| Three bedrooms | 26.3% |
| Four or more bedrooms | 20.9% |
| Rented privately | 39.1% |
| Built before 1900 | 81.3% |
The ONS calls this patch Fulham Aintree, after Aintree Street, and it covers the Munster Road streets around the old ward. Houses make up a big share: 40.2% of homes, nearly all of them terraces (35.5%), and the VOA dates 81.3% of homes to before 1900. Family sizes follow. Three-bedroom homes make up 26.3% and four or more bedrooms 20.9%, so many bookings here are for a whole house, stairs included. Three bedrooms, a living room and the stairs in a terrace off Munster Road add up to £192.
The rest is flats, and a good share of them (22.6% of all homes) are conversions inside the same terraces, the upper and lower halves of a house with a shared front door. Private renting runs at 39.1%, so those flats see regular end-of-tenancy cleans. Just 2.4% of homes lack central heating; in a terrace with the heating on low a carpet cleaned in the morning is dry by the evening.

Pets and park mud
The jobs cluster around family life and the walk home through the park. We get a lot of pet accidents soaked into bedroom carpet, the cat or the dog more often than not, where the mark lifts easily but the odour needs the underlay flushing properly before it goes for good. We clean wine and squash out of front-room carpets and fabric sofas after a dinner or a children’s party, and stairs and landings churned grey over winter when the dog has brought half of Bishop’s Park back with it.
The old wool runners and rugs in these houses need straight talk. Years of foot traffic on a stair carpet can wear the pile flat or shade it lighter down the middle, and cleaning lifts the dirt and brightens the colour but cannot put back fibre that has gone. We tell you on the doorstep whether a carpet will come up like new or simply a great deal cleaner.
Two zones and a free Sunday
Munster Road divides two of Hammersmith and Fulham’s parking zones. The cemetery side, from Dawes Road down past St Olaf’s Road, is Zone W; the Filmer Road side towards Parsons Green is Zone R. Both are controlled Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and both are free on Sundays and outside those hours. A weekday clean means a visitor session from you or a paid bay; a Sunday clean usually means the van parks at your door.
Munster Road itself is a busy through road, so on a job there we stop on the nearest side street and run the hose round. Inside, a loft room usually means a steep final flight, so clear it of boxes and laundry baskets and lift any rugs off the hall floor before we arrive.

How we clean in Munster
Most bookings here are hot-water extraction, which we list under steam carpet cleaning, rinsing the pile and pulling the bulk of the moisture back out so a room is dry within 6 to 7 hours. For sofas and the odd headboard we use the upholstery cleaning service, matched to the fabric so nothing is over-wet. Wool and delicate rugs get rug cleaning in your home, and for a delicate one we ask for a photo first, so we can say whether it will clean safely on site. We cover the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham on the same terms, and reach neighbouring Parsons Green and Fulham on the same round.
Munster Road questions
Which Munster Village streets do you cover, from Munster Road to Fulham Cross?
We cover all of Munster Village inside SW6: the full stretch of Munster Road and the streets off it, such as Aintree Street, St Olaf’s Road, Kilmaine Road, Filmer Road and Rostrevor Road, up to Fulham Cross and Normand Park. If you are right on the edge near West Kensington or Parsons Green, give us the postcode and we will confirm it is in range.
Where does the cleaner park round Munster Road?
Munster Village sits in controlled parking Zones W and R, with restrictions from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, so there is no all-day free kerb space on the terraces in the week. Our van only needs a spot for the length of the visit, and the team works around the bays. If your road is tight, a visitor session or a word about the nearest space helps us arrive on time.
Can you get pet smells out of bedroom carpet?
Usually, yes. A surface mark from a cat or dog lifts with the clean, but for the smell to go the urine has to be flushed out of the backing and underlay. We treat the spot at the source and deodorise, which is why most owners tell us the room is properly fresh again, even weeks after an accident.
How long do carpets in a Munster terrace take to dry?
Most carpets in Munster are dry within 6 to 7 hours, because the extraction machine draws the bulk of the water back out as it rinses. Heavy wool or a cold ground-floor room can sit damp a little longer. Opening a window or running the heating low helps, and the household keeps socks on until the carpet has dried.
Can you clean the carpet in a loft conversion?
Yes. A loft bedroom is priced like any other bedroom, from £36, and the extra flight up to it as stairs, from £41. Loft stairs are often steep and narrow with winders at the turn, so we clean them by hand with a smaller tool where the machine head will not sit flat. Mention the loft when you book so we bring the right kit.
Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes, and around Munster Road it has a practical advantage: Zones W and R are uncontrolled on Sundays, so the van can usually park close by without a visitor session. Sunday slots suit families who want the house empty while the carpets dry, too; start in the morning, take the children out to Bishop’s Park, and the carpets are dry by the evening.
Under our re-clean guarantee, any treated area that is not right gets a free return visit. We are insured and DBS-checked, with the same cleaners working Fulham since 2009, so you know who is coming through the door.
