Rise Park is a 1930s estate that went on the market in 1937 and filled in through the postwar years, so the housing is mostly semis, short terraces and a good number of single-storey bungalows built for people who did not want to climb stairs. The roads carry Scottish river and glen names, Annan Way, Dee Way, Beauly Way and Garry Close among them, and several of them run right up to the six entrances of Rise Park off Lower Bedfords Road. The park itself is the green link Thomas England gave the borough in 1937 to join Raphael Park and its lake in the south to Bedfords Park in the north, with the A12 Eastern Avenue forming the estate’s southern edge. Romford station is about a mile and a half down through the town centre, on the Elizabeth line and the Liberty line into Liverpool Street.

Is parking a problem for your van on the estate?
Rarely. Rise Park is not in a controlled parking zone, so most houses have a drive or free kerbside space and we can pull up close to the door and run the hose straight in. On the tighter closes and the courts we may park a short way off, which makes no difference to the clean.
Do you get the mud from Raphael Park out of carpets?
