We clean rugs in your home, on the same visit as the carpets: vacuumed, stains pre-treated, then shampooed and rinsed with hot-water extraction where the rug lies. Fixed prices from £35, insured, re-clean guaranteed.
How we clean a rug in your home
Your rug stays in the house. The technician brings the same van-mounted kit we use on fitted carpet and cleans the rug on the floor where it sits, or in another room if that suits you better.
- Vacuum first. Most of the dirt in a rug is dry grit down in the pile, so it comes out before any water goes in.
- Pre-treat the marks. Spills, pet accidents and the grey traffic lane get a treatment matched to the stain before the main clean.
- Shampoo and rinse. The rug is shampooed, then rinsed by hot-water extraction, which pulls the dirty water back out of the pile.
- Groom and leave to dry. We set the pile in its natural direction and leave the rug to dry in place. Keep shoes and pets off it until it is dry.
Your rug stays in the house, and it is cleaned on the same visit as the carpets.

Wool, synthetic, viscose and delicate rugs
The fibre changes the job, so we check it before we start. Wool and synthetic rugs take a hot-water clean well. Viscose is often sold as “art silk” because it mimics that sheen, and it is the trickiest fibre there is: it is made from wood pulp, it reacts badly to water, and it can yellow, stiffen or crush flat where it gets wet. Jute behaves the same way.
For silk, viscose, jute, an antique or anything hand-knotted and valuable, send us a photo before you book. Some of these cannot be cleaned safely on site, and we would sooner tell you that up front than risk the rug.
- Hot-water extraction
- A rinse that sprays hot water into the pile and pulls it straight back out with strong suction, taking the loosened dirt with it.
- Viscose (art silk)
- A fibre made from wood pulp, sold for its silk-like shine. It reacts to water and can yellow or stiffen.
- Dry soil
- The loose grit and dust held down in the pile, vacuumed out before any water goes in.
- Foundation and fringe
- The woven base of the rug and the warp threads that run past the ends as the fringe.
What rug cleaning will not fix
Very old set-in stains may not fully clear, and some antique rugs carry dyes that were never properly fixed. Cleaning cannot regrow pile that moths have already eaten. If we think a rug will not improve, or is at risk, we say so before we start.
Getting your rug ready
Clear the floor around the rug and lift anything off it; we move light furniture for you. Tell us about spills, pet accidents or weak spots when you book. Most family-home rugs want a clean every twelve to eighteen months, sooner with pets, children or a busy hallway.
Across London, and our other services
We clean rugs in homes across all 33 London boroughs. You can check your area on our coverage map. The fitted floors can be done on the same visit with our hot-water carpet cleaning, and the upholstery service takes care of the sofas.
Rug cleaning questions, answered
Do you clean rugs on-site or take them away?
On site, always. We clean the rug in your home on the day of the visit, usually alongside the carpets or the sofa. We do not collect rugs or take them away.
Can you clean a large rug?
Yes. Rugs up to 3m² start from £35 and larger rugs from £51. Give us the rough size when you book so we can give you a fixed price.
Is it safe for wool and delicate rugs?
Wool and synthetic rugs clean well with our method. For silk, viscose, jute or an antique piece, send us a photo first and we will tell you plainly whether it can be cleaned safely in your home.
Can you get every stain out of a rug?
We lift a great deal, and our re-clean guarantee means that if a spot comes back, so do we at no charge. Very old set-in stains and some unstable antique dyes may not fully clear, and we tell you that before we start.
Every rug is backed by our re-clean guarantee, we are fully insured, and we have cleaned for London since 2009.
