Shepherd’s Bush Green began as a triangle of waste land owned by the manor of Fulham, with the old road to Oxford along its north side; today it is about eight acres of grass ringed by flats and maisonettes, while Coverdale Road, Arminger Road and the streets off the Uxbridge Road hold Victorian terraces carved into flats. London Carpet Cleaning covers Shepherd’s Bush, W12, out to Television Centre, from £36 a room. Expect carpets to be dry within 6 to 7 hours.

From market gardens to loft conversions
Most of W12 was market gardens until the late 1800s, when row upon row of terraces went up for clerks who commuted to the City. So the bulk of what we clean sits in three and four-storey Victorian houses that were carved into flats long ago, many with a narrow original hallway and a steep stair up to a loft conversion, the other thing W12 is full of. The Green and the streets around it have been the Shepherds Bush Conservation Area since October 1984, and further west the Coningham and Lime Grove and the Ingersoll and Arminger conservation areas protect more of the same housing; Arminger Road was already lined with houses in a photograph of about 1909.
Round the Green itself the stock is mixed: late-Victorian terraces, a few mansion blocks, and The Grampians, the big mansion block on Shepherd’s Bush Road, now listed Grade II. The Empire on the west side of the Green is Frank Matcham’s old theatre, and the Bush Theatre is a short walk away. Then there is the other end of the stock entirely: the former BBC Television Centre on Wood Lane, now hundreds of flats, where the carpet is newer and paler. Shepherd’s Bush station on the Central line and the Overground station of the same name are both at the east end of the Green.
Shepherd’s Bush homes by the numbers
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Terraced houses | 26.6% |
| Flats in converted houses | 19.8% |
| Owned by the people living there | 33.6% |
| Four or more bedrooms | 20.0% |
| Built before 1900 | 27.1% |
| Built 2000 or later | 16.4% |
The census does not use Shepherd’s Bush as one area. The neighbourhood this page is pinned to is the one the ONS calls Wormholt Road: the Victorian streets north of the Uxbridge Road round Arminger Road and Galloway Road, plus part of the Wormholt cottage estate. It has more whole houses than most of W12. Terraced houses make up 26.6% of homes, and 20.0% have four or more bedrooms, the tall terraces with a loft room on top. Another 19.8% are flats in converted houses, each with its own share of a stair.
A third of households (33.6%) own their home, so the work here leans toward family houses: stairs, landings and a through-lounge where two rooms were knocked into one. Three bedrooms, a knocked-through lounge and one flight of stairs in a terrace off Arminger Road come to £210. Over a quarter of homes (27.1%) are older than 1900, and wool turns up on their stairs, which we clean with less water. Another 16.4% date from 2000 or later. Only 1.6% of homes have no central heating, so the drying time holds even in winter.

Three parking zones around the Green
Parking in Shepherd’s Bush depends on which side of the Green you are. The streets just north and south of the Uxbridge Road, from Arminger Road to Coverdale Road, are in Hammersmith and Fulham’s Zone JJ, controlled every day from 9am to 9pm. Round the Green and Lime Grove it is Zone G, every day from 9am to 10pm with a two-hour limit in pay-and-display bays. West toward Becklow Road and Wormholt it changes to Zone V, controlled only Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
We pay to park, and the cost is on us. The Green is circled by traffic and bus lanes, so for a flat facing it we unload on a side street and wheel the kit round. In a terrace with a loft conversion, the top stair is usually narrower and steeper than the main flight, so we start at the top and work down, and we need the landing clear. Move shoes, laundry baskets and anything stored on the stairs before we arrive.

Stair runs, takeaway marks and the cleaning we do
The two jobs we are called for most in W12 are end-of-tenancy carpets in the flat conversions and stair runs worn grey down the middle, often by a household tramping up and down to a loft room. Takeaway and curry marks off the Uxbridge Road parade come up well, and family sofas that have met juice and chocolate usually look like different settees once they are done. Where a stain has been ground in for months, like a plant-pot ring or an old spill left to set in a hallway, hot-water extraction lifts the vast majority but cannot promise the last shadow, and we tell you on arrival if a mark will only fade.
Our main service in W12 is hot-water steam carpet cleaning, which rinses out the trodden-in grit a vacuum leaves behind and still has the pile dry within 6 to 7 hours. We also handle sofa and upholstery cleaning in the home, from corner units to dining chairs and mattresses, and rug cleaning in your home for anything from a wool runner to a big patterned lounge rug with a pet history. For the rest of the borough, see our Hammersmith and Fulham page, and we also cover neighbouring White City and Barons Court.
Shepherd’s Bush questions
Which W12 streets and postcodes do you cover?
All of them. We work the whole of W12, from the conversions around the Green and the Askew Road end across to White City and the Television Centre flats on Wood Lane. There is no surcharge for any Shepherd’s Bush street, and we are happy to do a single room or a whole flat.
Parking is tight near the Green. How do you manage it?
The streets around the Green are in Zones G and JJ, controlled seven days a week, so kerb space is competitive all day. We pay to park where we need to, and the cost is on us, never added to your bill. If your road is awkward, tell us at booking and we will plan the van around it.
Do you do end-of-tenancy carpet cleaning for flats off the Green?
Yes, it is one of our commonest W12 jobs, with so many homes here rented conversions. We clean the carpets to a standard letting agents and landlords expect for the deposit, and can come the day the flat is empty so it is ready for the check-out inspection.
How long do carpets take to dry in a Shepherd’s Bush loft conversion?
Usually 6 to 7 hours. Our machines pull most of the moisture back out, so you are left with a slightly damp pile. In a loft conversion up the steep stairs of a W12 terrace, or a closed-up flat by the Green, we crack a window or leave a door open to keep air moving.
Is the second, steeper stair up to a loft room priced separately?
Yes, each flight is priced on its own, from £41, so a house with a main stair and a loft stair counts as two flights. The loft stair is often narrow with winders at the turn, and we clean those treads by hand. Tell us on the phone how many flights you have and whether the loft room is carpeted, and the quote is fixed.
Do you clean the big mansion flats around the Green?
Yes. Mansion flats have long carpeted halls and large rooms, and the building usually has a lift and a porter or managing agent. Let us know the building’s rules for contractors and where we can unload, and we bring the hose up by lift. A long hall is priced like a living room, so ask for a quote with your room sizes.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee: if a treated area does not come up as it should, we come back and put it right at no charge. Our cleaners are DBS-checked and fully insured, and Shepherd’s Bush has been part of our west London work since 2009.
