What Stonebridge homes are like
Stonebridge has been rebuilt more completely than almost anywhere in Brent. The postwar estate put up between 1949 and 1978 ran to 2,169 homes, some in towers of 21 storeys. Tenants voted for a Housing Action Trust in the early 1990s, and between 1994 and 2007 the trust demolished the blocks and replaced them with low-rise streets of brick houses and flats, most of them now managed by Hillside Housing Trust, part of the Hyde Group, or by Brent Council. Every tower is gone. What stands in their place is unusual for this part of London: family houses with front doors on the street and gardens behind, nearly all of it built since the late 1990s, which is why the carpets we lift here are modern synthetic twist piles rather than fifty-year-old wool.
Older stock survives at the edges. Melville Road, Brett Road and Barry Road date from the 1880s and 1890s, built for tradespeople when the first Stonebridge Park villas were being sold to city men. Hillside, the A404, is the spine road, and Brent is now putting £600m into the Hillside Corridor, with around 1,000 new homes and a new Bridge Park leisure centre planned; the old centre, a converted bus garage, closed in July 2025 ahead of the rebuild.
