We clean fabric, leather and suede upholstery across London, matching the method to what your sofa is made of. Sofas, armchairs and dining chairs are inspected, patch-tested, cleaned and groomed, then left to dry, which takes 10 to 12 hours. Fully insured, with a re-clean guarantee.
How we clean your upholstery
The first thing we do is read the furniture. We check the maker’s label for a cleaning code, identify the fabric, and look for wear, loose dye and old repairs. Then we vacuum the piece to lift dry soil from the weave, because cleaning over grit just grinds it deeper into the fibre.
Next comes a patch test on a hidden section, usually under a cushion, to check the colour is stable before we touch any part you can see. Once we know it is safe, we pre-treat the soiled areas and the high-contact zones: headrests, arms and seat fronts.
The clean itself depends on the code and the cloth. Washable fabrics get a low-moisture extraction clean that lifts soil without soaking the foam. Leather is cleaned with a dedicated leather cleaner and then conditioned, so it stays supple instead of cracking. Suede and nubuck are handled dry, never flooded. We finish by grooming the pile to an even lay, and a fabric sofa is dry in 10 to 12 hours.

Fabric, leather and the cleaning codes
Most upholstery carries a cleaning code on a tag, and that single letter decides everything. Use the wrong type of clean and you can set a stain or mark the surface for good. Here is what the codes mean:
- W
- Water-based cleaning is safe. The fabric can be cleaned with water-based products and a wet method.
- S
- Solvent only. Use a dry-cleaning solvent, not water, because water can shrink, ring-mark or distort this cloth.
- WS
- Either method is fine. The fabric tolerates water-based or solvent cleaning, so we choose by soil type and fibre.
- X
- Vacuum only, or professional dry cleaning. No home wet or solvent cleaning; any liquid risks shrinkage or watermarks.
Beyond the codes, fabric type guides our choice. Cotton and linen mixes show watermarks easily, so we keep moisture low and even. Velvet needs careful grooming afterwards or the pile dries patchy. Suede and nubuck have a raised nap that water flattens, so we treat them dry.
Use the wrong type of clean and you can set a stain or mark the surface for good.
What upholstery cleaning will not fix
We would rather be honest than oversell. The wrong product on suede or unsealed leather can leave a permanent mark, which is exactly why we patch-test and treat those materials dry. An X-code piece or a fragile fabric is not safe to wet-clean, and if yours is one of those we will say so rather than risk it. Deep old body-oil odour soaked into foam, and stains set for years, do not always clear completely. We can usually improve them, and we tell you what to expect before we begin, not after.
Preparing for your upholstery clean
There is very little for you to do. Clear any throws, cushions and loose items off the furniture, and give us space to work around each piece. If you can find the care label, point it out. We bring everything else.
How often is up to the household. A family sofa with kids and pets benefits from a clean every six to twelve months; a guest-room chair can go longer. The products we use are safe around children and pets once dry, and a clean helps a home feel fresher for anyone prone to dust-triggered asthma.
We cover all 33 London boroughs. Many customers book the suite alongside their carpet cleaning in the same visit, and we also handle curtains and drapery and mattresses. Check your local coverage to confirm.
Upholstery cleaning questions, answered
How long does a sofa take to dry?
A fabric sofa takes 10 to 12 hours to dry, so a clean in the morning is ready to sit on that night or the next morning. Leather is ready even sooner, since it is wiped and conditioned rather than flushed with water.
Can you clean a leather sofa safely?
Yes. We clean leather with a dedicated leather cleaner, then apply a conditioner so the hide stays soft and does not crack. We patch-test a hidden area first, and if the leather is unsealed or very worn we tell you what we can and cannot safely do.
Do you move the furniture?
We work on each piece where it sits, so you do not need to shift heavy sofas. We just ask that you clear cushions, throws and loose items, and leave room so we can reach all sides.
Will you get every stain out?
We lift most normal marks, and our re-clean guarantee means if a treated spot comes back, so do we, at no charge. Some set-in stains and deep body-oil odour will not clear fully. We are straight about that before we start.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes. The products we use are safe around children and pets once the upholstery is dry, which takes 10 to 12 hours for fabric. A clean also removes trapped dust and dander, which helps any household where someone is sensitive to allergens.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee: if a spot comes back, so do we, at no charge. We are fully insured, our cleaners are DBS-checked, and we have cleaned upholstery for London homes since 2009. Call 020 8077 8090 or request a quote.
