Walton-on-Thames station opened in 1838 as Walton for Hersham, and the roads between it and Hersham Road still mix family houses, post-war semis and newer blocks of flats. London Carpet Cleaning covers Walton, KT12, and the other Walton up in KT20, and has done since 2009. Cleaning runs from £36 a room, and carpets are dry within 6 to 7 hours.

Which Walton is this?
Two places answer to the name in our bookings. This page is about Walton-on-Thames in KT12, in Elmbridge, and in particular the south side of the town, between the station, Hersham Road and the Rydens roads. Walton on the Hill is a separate village in KT20, in Reigate and Banstead, with Tadworth as its post town and about ten miles away to the south-east. We clean in both, at the same prices, but when you book it helps to say which one, because the van leaves from a different direction.
South Walton, from the station to Rydens Road
Walton’s housing splits three ways, and the south side has a little of each. Between the station and the town centre, and on the older roads such as Ashley Road and, north of the centre, Terrace Road, there are late-Victorian and Edwardian houses with the original boards under the carpet and rooms that hold the damp. Around Rydens Road and Rydens Avenue you find interwar and post-war semis alongside detached family homes, with fitted carpet through the halls and up the stairs. Then there are the newer flats, including the gated blocks towards Ambleside Avenue, usually laid with pale loop-pile that marks easily.
The station sits on the South Western Railway lines out of Waterloo, fast in via Surbiton, so a lot of these homes empty out on weekdays. That suits us: a house with nobody walking on the carpet until the evening dries without a single footprint.
The census picture south of the station
| Homes that are | Share |
|---|---|
| Detached houses | 30.5% |
| Flats in purpose-built blocks | 30.2% |
| Four or more bedrooms | 33.6% |
| Built 1945 to 1972 | 26.4% |
| Built 2000 or later | 28.1% |
| Socially rented | 11.0% |
| Shared ownership | 2.9% |
This neighbourhood is split almost down the middle. Detached houses make up 30.5% of homes and purpose-built flats 30.2%, and a third of homes (33.6%) have four or more bedrooms. Most of the stock is younger than the station roads: 26.4% was built between 1945 and 1972 and another 28.1% since 2000. In practice that means a lot of fitted synthetic carpet, which cleans and dries quickly. For one of the larger detached houses, four bedrooms with a through-lounge and the stairs, the clean comes to £246.
Tenure is mixed too. 11.0% of homes are socially rented and 2.9% are shared ownership. In a block, the communal hall carpet is usually the managing agent’s job and the carpet inside the flat is yours, so tell us who is paying for which. Only 1.4% of homes lack central heating, so drying is rarely held up by a cold house.

Parking near the station and the Walton CPZ
The Walton controlled parking zone reaches into these streets. Around the station, including Garrick Close, West Grove, Burwood Park Road and Woodside Avenue, bays are for Walton CPZ permit holders from 8am to 9.30am on weekdays, then permit holders or two-hour visitors until noon. Felcott Road and Cleveland Close have their own permit bays from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours, and at weekends, the zone does not apply.
Most houses on the Rydens roads have a drive, and that is where the van goes. For a flat without a space, we book a slot after 9.30am, when a two-hour bay is open to us, or an afternoon, when the zone has finished.
Wine, pets and tenancy cleans
The KT12 jobs tell a familiar story. Red wine on a lounge carpet after a party, dogs that have greyed a pair of linen sofas over the winter, a traffic line worn down the middle of a staircase, a coffee ring set into a wool rug, and end-of-tenancy carpets that need to pass an agent’s eye for the deposit. Family homes and rented flats, most of them with a pet, make up the bulk of a Walton week.
The older houses near the river are slower. Their floors and ground-floor rooms hold moisture, so on a wool carpet in a cold Edwardian house the drying can run past the 6 to 7 hours we quote, sometimes into the evening. We bring fans and open the place up, but a deep wine or pet treatment in that stock takes longer to dry than a carpet in a modern flat, and it is fair to plan your day around it.

How we clean carpets, sofas and rugs in Walton
Most jobs here are hot-water extraction, what people call steam carpet cleaning, which lifts the wine and the worn-in traffic lines that Walton carpets end up with. We clean sofas and armchairs through our upholstery cleaning service, good for the linen and pet-grubby suites we see around Rydens Road and Ashley Road. A stained wool rug is cleaned in your home, which is our rug cleaning service: vacuumed, pre-treated, then shampooed and rinsed on the spot. A few miles east of Walton, Kingston upon Thames is the nearest London borough on our list.
Walton bookings: common questions
Which parts of Walton-on-Thames do you cover, from Rydens Road to the river?
All of KT12. That takes in the town centre, Ashley Road, Rydens Road and Rydens Avenue, Hersham Road and the New Zealand Avenue end, down to the riverside roads. We are a London crew based just over the boundary, so there is no extra travel charge for crossing into Surrey.
Where will the van park near the centre or the station?
On your drive if you have one. The Walton CPZ covers the streets around the station on weekday mornings, so for a flat there we book after 9.30am and use a shared bay, or come after noon when the zone has finished. Tell us the access when you book and we will sort it.
Can you get a deposit-standard clean done for an end of tenancy?
Yes, that is one of our regular Walton jobs, especially in the flats around the town centre. We deep clean the carpets so they meet the agent’s check-out, and we work to your move-out date. Book the carpets for after the furniture is out, so nothing gets marked again before the inventory.
How long will carpets take to dry in an older Walton house?
A modern flat is usually dry within 6 to 7 hours. In a period house near the river, or on a thick wool stair carpet, allow longer, sometimes most of an evening in winter. We leave air moving and the carpet only damp, never wet, and until it has dried clean socks, not shoes, are best.
Do you also come out to Walton on the Hill in KT20?
Yes. Walton on the Hill is a separate village near Tadworth, in Reigate and Banstead, and we cover it on our KT20 round at the same fixed prices. Just say which Walton when you book, since the two are about ten miles apart and we plan the day around the drive.
Can you clean just the stairs and landing in a post-war house?
Yes. Stairs are priced per flight, from £41, and we clean each tread and riser with a hand tool, then the landing with the main machine. Fitted synthetic stair carpet in these houses sits at the quicker end of the range, and the stairs take up to 6 to 7 hours to dry, with clean socks, not shoes, until then. It is a sensible booking before a sale or a family visit.
Every clean comes with our re-clean guarantee, so if a mark lifts as it dries we come back and put it right at no charge. We are fully insured and DBS-checked, and we have cleaned carpets, sofas and rugs around Walton and across Surrey since 2009.
