What Wimbledon homes are like
Wimbledon is two different jobs in one postcode. Up around the Village and the Common you get the big Victorian and Edwardian villas, the kind on Arthur Road and Home Park Road that were laid out in the 1870s, with period plaster, original mosaic hall tiles and a lot of fitted wool carpet on wide staircases. This is one of the largest conservation areas in London, so much of the stock is protected and the floors underneath are often the originals. South Wimbledon is the SW19 stretch around the Northern line station, with Victorian terraces along Merton Road and Kingston Road, many split into garden maisonettes and upper-floor flats. Wimbledon Park, also SW19, is the grid of Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis between the lake and the District line station on Arthur Road.
